Sjag Kozak (Founder and owner of Bear-Necessity) was born in Tel Aviv and moved to Amsterdam in 1996. He now lives with his husband, Aart, whom he met in 2011. Sjag is no stranger to the Dutch gay nightlife having worked in the scene for many years. His roles have ranged from his early days as club doorman to now being a party promoter since 2006 being responsible for such parties as COC Leather group, Playground, Salvation, LoveChild, Club Sandwich and many more.

Sjag is synonymous with Bears in the Netherlands and throughout Europe. He is also an outspoken leader in the Dutch Gay community. He volunteers in a gay retirement home and is an active supporter for the Amsterdam Lowlanders (gay rugby team).

In 2008, Sjag thought there was very little available for “Butch” men to meet and socialize in a relaxed atmosphere. It was then that the infamous Bear-Necessity (BN) concept was born- and gave home to hairy men and their admirers.

In addition to BN, Sjag regularly organizes and promotes other international party concepts both in the Netherlands and internationally. Sjag is a founding member of the “Amsterdam Bear Weekend” which includes the election of Mr. Bear Netherlands. Bear-Necessity is also an official sponsor of the Amsterdam Lowlanders and the Bingham Cup 2018 (that will be held in June in Amsterdam).

DJ Pagano

UK-based Italian Pagano has a pretty serious CV. Playing a blend of House and Techno with his own reworks of classics in good measure, Pagano has crafted a niche for himself that helped him becoming one of the most successful DJs and Producers to come out of the London club scene.

An accomplished hand in the studio and behind the decks, Pagano’s really hit his stride of late, with his release featuring in no less than 5 Beatport charts at the same time. Sergio Cardoso was born in Brazil and moved about 20 years ago to Amsterdam, from where he never left. Since he can remember he has always been into many kinds and all sorts of music, but throughout the years he became increasingly interested in the electronic music genre, that has got him totally addicted nowadays. Sergio is very passionate about his work in different fields, and it grows stronger every day. “Because of the great support from the people that have followed me and gave me a chance! There’s nothing better than a day and/or night filled with music!” With his sets he aims to create an emotional journey through the mind and soul. His performances at Wolf and Club Sandwich in Amsterdam, under his previous name BravoGuy, got him a residency at Bear-Necessity, where he controls the venue’s second area. House, progressive house, tech-house, tribal, soulful, jacking, deephouse are the styles that speak to and from DJ Sergio Cardoso, and the list is growing…

Mike Jayy (a.k.a. Mike J.) was born in East Germany and moved to Cologne, where he has lived since 1998. His first dance music inspirations came from artists like Kraftwerk and Jean Michel Jarre, and later in Stuttgart during the mid to late 90´s, Mike got into dance music for the floor at clubs “Trance” and “Oshos”. In 2006, a DJ friend (Mister Mola) passed Mike his turntables and Mike J. eagerly began mixing. After a year of home sessions and private party sets, Mike was very quickly given his first residency at Cologne´s Station2B. Instantly, his refreshing presentation of a unique cross-section of house-tech-progressive-techno-electro was received with positive critique. Mike was soon after invited to perform in Madrid at The Angel, where he has played as a regular guest since mid 2007. At the end of 2007, one of Cologne´s premier clubs Diamonds engaged Mike J. to work in their after hour events including “Insomnia” and “Toxic” where he has been resident since. The event has since moved on to a new location Privilege, where the party has been re-named “Illegal Sounds”. In mid 2008, a new event appeared in Cologne´s Room69 at the chic, ultra modern Media Park; “Kinky Beats” occurs 6 times a year, and of course, Mike J. is at the helm. After a quick but effective stripe-earning process, Mike J. was selected to play Germany´s seminal progressive club, often voted best club in NRW by German magazines Rik and Blu. Mike J. made his debut as a warm-up DJ at Greenkomm in October 2008, and has been welcomed back many times as a main slot DJ. More recently, Mike J. has performed at Fetish Evolution Essen, one of the biggest fetish events in Germany, and has been called in to perform as regular guest at Cologne hotspots The O and Teatro, at both Night Control and Key Club, at Breakfastbeats, Club House / Teatro, Greenkomm, Sexy, Sonar Wave Festival, Bar Barcelon, Stuck bar, Cock-Pit, Codex, Tanz & Schmerz, Care, UC Party Frankfurt and now also Bear-Necessity. His passion “to make people happy and flying” permeates through the speakers.

Rado launched into his career in Sydney (Australia) back in 2004 with instant and impressive moments. In the immediate years to follow, Rado flourished at residencies in leading locations across Sydney. His abbreviated list of DJ haunts includes the city’s top super club Home and the giant halls at Sydney Mardi Gras’ Sleaze Ball, Fox Studios plus week to week at Manacle, Arq, Midnight Shift, The Phoenix and Colombian. Fans favoured his performance style as traversing the genres of progressive, house, tribal, tech, & deep-house with rare effortlessness, swiftly creating an energetic and effective fusion of accessible and underground sounds. Unfortunately for his Sydney fans, Rado returned to his home continent in 2008, setting up his base in the iconic dance hub Amsterdam. Fortunately for the European fans, Rado is thriving and in demand in Western Europe. His focus on a rhythmic twist of house & tech led in 2009 to his residency at BEAR-NECESSITY, and pushing deeper in boutique rooms at Club Church, Hard On and The Web. Rado was an early advocate of the digital revolution – a pioneer of DJing on CDs when most jocks insisted vinyl was the future – and now embraces unrestricted digitalism via Traktor software in order to enjoy the freedom of remixing on the fly as he adds vocals & beats in his DJ sets. On tour, it’s all killers, no fillers. Catch Rado working the hotspots at ADE (Amsterdam), Gay Village (Rome), Wonderland (Zurich), Greenkomm (Cologne), UC (Frankfurt), Naughty/Hunkut (Brussels), and Madbear (Madrid), or on air on Sorry Shoes Global Radio Shows (, totaldjwebradio, cyberbeatfm, Hawaii). Since 2011 Rado has been producing and remixing with Cologne based Mike Kelly, for which he created the production alias Eastnwest. Their remix of “Don’t” for Londoners Tom Marchant and Lizzie France blew the clubs away and was the top Beatport 2012 download for the label Sorry Shoes in Germany. Next up they tackled Barcelona’s finest on Nacho Chapado & Smaz feat. Patricia Leidig “Trust In The Universe” (Guareber Recordings). Later Rado & Mike joined DJ Mike Jayy and violinist Dylan Naylor to create an epic string version of Giangi Cappai’s Alma Matris classic “Circuito” (Mantra Vibes). Most recently Rado & Mike remixed Tom Stephan’s cult cut re-presented as Ben Manson & Gerald Henderson – “Magic Orgasm” (Twisted Records). The first original production came out in 2015 on Hoxton Whores’ label Whore House: Voltaxx & Mike Kelly & Eastnwest featuring Sua Amoa “I’m In Lust”

Bram Sniekers and Walther Ploos van Amstel, aka DJ Bramsterdam & DJ Big General are off after a flying start. What began as just a hobby has grown into a full blown passion. Initially involved as the DJʼs for the Furball Café editions, these two are now the creative force behind the Amsterdam Furball parties in Club Church, holding a solid residency in their hometown.

Internationally, the guys have worked the floor at the Great British Bear Bash (Manchester), Bear Essentials (Sydney), headlined Romeʼs Subwoofer during EuroPride, Copenhagenʼs BearAware, Bear Pride in Madrid, Cologne’s Butch & Bear parties and the infamous Cock-Pit. In Amsterdam they appeared in the line-up of Bear-Necessity several times. In 2010 they switched to a higher gear: The boys took Furball on the road for a special Furball Down Under during Sydneyʼs Mardi Gras and headlined the Underbear party during Bear Essentials. And if that wasnʼt enough, the guys played at Indulgence, Sydneyʼs leading leather dance event going strong for 8 years. Closer to home, the guys celebrated the 25th edition of Furball, created the party SuperSize(d) for Club Church and held two Furball Outdoor events during Queensday and Gay Pride in Amsterdam.

2011 turned out to be a very busy year with international gigs in Sydney, London, Rome, Madrid, Copenhagen, Antwerp, Cologne and over 25 dates in Amsterdam and in the future these guys show no signs of stopping. Behind the decks the guys work their back-to-back magic, constantly upping the ante, whipping dancefloors in a state of frenzy with that right track, at the right time. From warm-up or mainroom house via melodic progressive to a solid tech-house groove, it is all there.

Born in July 1968 on the French Riviera, Topher bathes in music since his younger age with his grand fathers both musicians. Disco music invades radio waves and when he sees Saturday Night Fever, he’s ten and he puts 5 spotlights and a disco ball in his bedroom to make it look like a discotheque. He buys his first disco compilations and maxi vinyl (Earth Wind & Fire, Patrick Hernandez, Sylvester…). He changes his plastic turntable for a second hand Hi-Fi Stereo system with his first mixer. He’s too young to go to the clubs but his radio pick up Italians broadcasts (Rete 105) specialised on «special clubs» versions, he’s very interested in dance charts and more in synthetic pop music (Depeche Mode, Visage, Soft Cell, Yello, Kraftwerk, Vangelis…). In the early 80’s, his trips to U.K. make him discover the sounds and the universe of Pink Floyd and Peter Gabriel, he plays and mixes Giorgio Moroder and John Carpenter soundtracks as well as Prince, The Sugarhill Gang and The Grand Master Flash.

1983, with Herbie Hancock’s « Rock It » he discovers Break-dance and Electro that he’s going to medley with Funk and Dance music. He’s training to mix and make montages with his tape recorder for his friend’s birthday parties. Topher’s a teenager when he starts to go out in Nice’s Batcave parties, where we dance on Gothic, New Wave and Electro Punk music. He listens to Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins, The Sisters of Mercy and mixes Front 242, Nitzer Ebb, Anne Clark, A Split Second…
1988, Topher collects Depeche Mode and New Order maxi singles, he prefers E.B.M. music than New Beat, but it’s in England that he discovers House music in Camden Palace parties and where he finds his House from Chicago records. Acid-House parties spread over France, he goes out to Pyramid et Limelight parties between Nice and Cannes but real Rave parties are happening around Paris.
1992, arrived in Paris, he discovers Rave Parties with after at the Palace (Kit Kat) and the choice of the techno music shop… So he turns toward Acid Trance, Transcore and Progressive sounds then Psychedelic Trance around 1995. DJ Ricky invites Topher as a guest in his broadcast on Radio FG « Le Manège Enchanté » for two sets live of 1 hour (Psychedelic & Progressive Trance).
1997, he becomes resident at the Gobelet d’Argent, bar near the Halles in Paris where he’s named DJ L-ium (like helium) for his sets that lift you up. He mixes for the Techno Parade and in the clubs around the city. In parallel, he’s making soundtracks for the shows of the singer Judy Cehm.
1998, he’s resident of House et Techno parties at « Le Blue Eyes » discotheque in Dreux.; he mixes with DJ Roussia in Toulouse and in Parisians happenings: music festivals for 3 years at the Ile aux Cygnes and Tino Rossi Gardens (with Joti Sidhu, X Dream, Mike de Juno Reactor, Hilight Tribe, Dino Psaras…), for the school of landscape gardners annual party in Versailles, first part of Nina Hagen’s live at Studio 287.

He keeps on making soundtrack and creates 3 techno remixes of Beethoven’s opera for the “Théâtre de la comédie de Béthune” (Fantasy about Don Juan by Molière and Milosz). He remixes Brigitte Bardot song « La Madrague » especially for the fashion show of the swimsuit mark at Les Bains in Paris. For Utram he creates a sample for the website animated logo, he mixes at their private parties and in the “Salle Méditerranée” of the Carlton Hotel during the Film Festival in Cannes with a quadraphonic sound and a 360° multi-screen concept. He also accompanies the video performance of Lavomatic at the Glazart.

2001, as he doesn’t play Trance music any more he decides to change his DJ name for Topher. His music and experience let him play in several private parties for Utram (with Bettie Page, Laurent Ho, Radium…) and BPM4 parties in Marseille from 2002 to 2003 (with Bruce Le Koala, Stephane d’Elisium, Miss Anacor…) and also at Workshop afterparty (Bruxelles) for 6 hours of Progressive House. He meets Nicolas Nucci when he’s invited to mix at Friday Party in Paris (2003) that will organise a Drive party on the boat Le Quai with Topher as a guest and after his famous Progress! Tim’s break happened in 1998 in Australia, when a good friend promoted him to Sydney’s super club Arq, he was invited to play the Mardi Gras Recovery Party and after word spread. Returning to London he was invited to play the Saturday main floor guest slot at London’s long standing and famous gay club Heaven.
